The NFL Week 8 Recap

Joshua Huber (joshua.huber@sseonline.org)                             11/1/06

The Dallas Cowboys rebounded from a good buttkickin, by soundly defeating the Carolina Panthers 35-14. The start, a success for new starting quarterback Romo who threw for 270 yards and a touchdown, leading his Cowboys to 25 4th quarter points and the win.

The Tennessee Titans recorded their 2nd win of the Vince Young era, beating Houston 28-22, with only 197 yards of total offense. Tony Brown returned a fumble 40 yards for a score in the 2nd quarter, and Adam Jones took a punt back 53 yards for a TD in the 3rd, forcing the defense to win the game.

The Atlanta Falcons upset the Cincinnati Bengals 29-27 in Cincinnati behind 291 pass yards and three touchdowns from Michael Vick, a guy that the Bengals defense could not stop. A couple stalled drives hurt the Bengals early in the second half, leading to 2 Falcon touchdowns, and having to play comeback, didnt work for the Bengals. They fall to 4-3, while the Falcons move to 5-2, and into a first place tie with New Orleans, who lost to Baltimore 35-22 at home after turning the ball over 5 times. Balitomore was led by a stiff defense, and Jamal Lewis who rushed for 109 yards, and moved into first place in the AFC North at 5-2. They lead Cincinnati by 1 full game.

The Pittsburgh Steelers dropped to 2-5 and in a last place tie with Cleveland, after losing to the lowly Oakland Raiders 20-13, a team that only gained 96 total yards on offense against the Steelers. 2 interceptions thrown by Ben Roethlesberger were returned for touchdowns, and he threw 4 overall.

Chicago and Indy both improved to 7-0, after the Bears beat the 49ers 41-10, scoring all their points in the first half, and the Colts beat the Broncos 34-31, in a classic offense vs defense matchup.

So after 3 weeks of this NFL season, here are the top and bottom 3:

TOP 3

#1 Indianaplois (7-0) - This team will score on anyone they play this year, but how good is the "d"?

#2 Chicago (7-0) - Crushed a very bad team, they should.

#3 New England (6-1) - The Saints arent here anymore, and the Pats are moving up fast!

BOTTOM 3

#30 Miami (1-6) - They may be able to beat Pittsburgh.

#31 Pittsburgh (2-5) - I had written Oakland off as the NFL's worst, and they aren't even in the bottom 3 anymore!

#32 Arizona (1-7) - Ouch, this team needs to rally behind their coach.

There are plenty of things I can sit here and talk about, but I will throw some opinionated facts out there.

- The Cincinnati Bengals are right where they need to be at this point in the year, in front of Pittsburgh.

- Ok, the Ravens are 5-2, and are looking better, but the offense still does not exist. They will not win the division without an offense.

- Pittsburgh will not make the playoffs. I stand by the statement, and always will. Its not that I dislike the Steelers, its that, they really arent that good! -this comment will remain here until the end of the season....

- The Chicago Bears are going to eventually lose this season, and it may not happen until the SuperBowl is upon us.
