Well, yesterday I observed an ebay auction for michigan state - ohio state tickets in which the seller was asking 325 bucks pop!! So I honestly asked her 'are you nuts, 325 each?", and she responded with "You obviously don't have the money to go to a game so please keep your comments to yourself and be content to listen to the game on your radio as I bet you don't even own a T.V."
..........hmm, how do sell things for that obscene amount of money, and then have the odacity to try to bash someone who doesnt want to buy them??? So, I responded with " excuse me miss.......i have press passes to the game, i own and control a company unlike alot of scam artists out there like you. i guarantee you dont sell those for 325 a piece, matter of fact I will write an article about the fact that you wont. check it out on www.sseonline.org......i dont need your stupid tickets, and by the way michigan state isnt worth 60 bucks a game, no matter who they are playing......."
So here you have it........I proclaim that ebay user: tammy.h is nuts, and will not sell those tickets by the time her posted time has expired........and if she does, she is RIPPING YOU OFF!........ You can get those tickets game day from a local scalper for under 60 a pop......
#5 Ebay Square Trade scam
A few weeks back I was bidding on Ohio State vs Michigan State tickets for my family on Ebay, and I didn't win any of them.......(paying over 100 bucks per ticket for this game is ridiculous)............
.........anyway, I am getting press passes for the game, but just wanted my fam to go to if they wanted.........no biggie that I didn't get them........
A day or 2 passed and I received this email from a guy named "Patrick Donatelli" saying................."
"I'm sorry for disturbing you, but I saw on eBay that you are interested in Ohio State Tickets ,I want to inform you that I have 6 tickets available for sale and I was wondering if you want to buy them. I am willing to give you a very reasonable price. Our transaction will also be covered under eBay's protection(Private Transaction) as I am a registered and serious seller on eBay. If you accept this offer, you will be eligible for eBay services associated with a transaction, such as fraud protection. If you are interested please reply asap."
So, I reply with:
"yeah you got msu/osu tickets?"
He responds:
"Hello, yes I have them, how many do you want? Thanks"
Me:
"want 3 tickets...thanks."
Him:
"In order to give you the correct information's about the tickets ( location
,date, price , etc . ) I need to know from you one more time for which venue
are you interested . I will wait your email asap .
So, I'm like: "

lansing Michigan............any other info??
Him: "
Saturday, Oct 14, 2006,Spartan Stadium-MI, East Lansing, MI,Section: 6

(So, I'm thinking "what the fuck? I know this shit") and respond with:
I need 3 tickets.................how much?
Him:

Me:
No thanks, ticketdigest offered 3 for $240, and I'll easily take those over

they are playing.......
(and thats alot coming from me, because I am a huge Spartan fan, I'm just trying to strongarm here)
HIM:
4 tickets for 200 $ is ok?
(now, I'm thinking wtf????, this guy says 3 for 450, now 4 for 200.......something isn't adding up here, so I trudge along...)
ME:
4 tickets for 200 dollars??? mich state vs ohio state (oct 14th @
Spartan stadium) deal. What do you need from me? Thanks.......
HIM:

HIM:
You will receive the an invoice from eBay to complete this transaction .
Let me know when you receive the invoice and also when you will be able to
complete the deal . Thanks
(I get the squaretrade transaction info, asking me to send a western union to fuckin Greece! this guy is in greece, and his gives 2 addresses not associated with his own........now, i'm nothing but curious, here we go...)
ME:
Now, with you being from Greece and all, I just wanted to ask a few honest
questions before proceeding with the transaction. How are you obtaining the
Michigan State tickets you are selling me, why do you have misspelled words
in the square trade agreement, and who is Barry Bailey?
No offense intended.....thanks.
(barry bailey was his western union "contact" with the grecian address #1)
HIM:
I bought thouse tickets when i lived in USA but right now i just moved in
Greece and i dont need them any more that is the reason i sell them. Barry
Bailey is the Square Trade agent. You will send the money on his name and
address because he will keep your money untill you will get the tickets. I
will wait your mail with payment confirmation
(looking back to when he first contacted me, he said he had Ohio State tickets for sale, and it clicked in my mind, this game is at MSU, even if he had osu season tickets he wouldn't have the msu game)
ME:
I have been informed it is not smart to be dealing with cash on the internet
or western union, especially to a foreign country. I have been burnt on
these deals before years back, and I refuse to again.
Why not just do a credit card transaction?? Season tickets aren't out yet,
how do you have Michigan state's? Can you not just cancel them??
It seems fishy to be sending money to Greece for MSU tickets......
HIM:
Square Trade will hold the payment until such time that they receive
confirmation from you that you will be satisfied by the tickets . So the
deal is legit and the tickets are genuine . If something will go wrong you
will get a full refund .The square trade will release me the money only
after you will comfirm that everething it's ok .
ME:
So I western union to squaretrade, right? Where are they located?
HIM:
Make the payment to address they have informed you on the invoice on square trade agent name. I will wait your mail with payment confirmation
(so at this point i start googling sqauretrade for bullshyt.........and this is what I found)
I have been a victim of a fraud by someone pretending to set up a deal through SquareTrade, but didn't realize it wasn't part of the official SquareTrade.com website.
This is the link that was used: square-trade-ltd.us which linked to SquareTrade.com in places. The email sent to me and this website uses the SquareTrade logo.
I was trying to buy Radiohead concert tickets for Toronto next month through Ebay and was contacted by a supposed scalper who would set up a SquareTrade transaction.
Money was sent on May 19, 2006, via Western Union to a "Shawn McKay" of 127 The Vale Acton, London, UK, W3 7RQ. There was also a "Mark Lugue" of 211 High St, London, UK, E7 1HZ. These people were pretending to be "EBay Square Trade Agents".
The email address used in all interactions was belinicueurota@yahoo.com. The person using that email hasn't gotten back to me in about a week after I asked for them to follow up on the fake transaction.
These people use Ebay ID's such as which probably aren't their own.
There was a fax number available to use to confirm payment: (206) 202-3382. I didn't use this number though.
A friend of mine, also tried to make a similar transaction, but was able to cancel the transaction through Western Union before the money was picked up. Her "transaction started" email she received was the same as mine, but with different names and ebay ID's.
The names used to pick up payment were "Larry Otto" with the same address as "Shawn McKay" and "Mark Lugue" again.
So basically..........
First of all, SquareTrade.com is a legit company. From wholeSale411.com:
" Square trade is just an optional mediation service eBay provides by which buyers / sellers can hopefully resolve a transaction and get bad feedback removed. Nothing more. It's optional so if one party wants to participate and the other doesn't, nothing happens. Scammers [often] describe Square Trade as being something it's not. It doesn't collect money from anyone, it doesn't monitor transactions in progress, [and] it doesn't warehouse goods. " (Source: wholesale411.com)
In other words:
SquareTrade does not do "deals". If someone says they're using SquareTrade as a "third party" so that you can get your money back if the deal somehow sours or if you're dissatisfied, it's a SCAM! I repeat: SquareTrade does not accept cash, store goods, or work as a "third party" for deals that have not yet gone through. Furthermore: if the person you're dealing with has emailed you repeatedly "on the side" and says that they prefer you to wire the money directly to them, it's a SCAM! |
