Huey Lewis/ Chicago Concert

SSEONLINE Rating: B+

The only reason this concert was rated a B+ and the sole reason it was not an A is because they played only 1 hit from the 80's. Hard to Say I'm Sorry. The 80's were Chicago's "ballad" years, and thus their top billboard hit singles were produced there. However, I am not totally sure why they didnt perform songs like: "You're The Inspiration", "Look Away", and "Will U Still Love Me", but I think it has something to do with Peter Cetera not being in the group anymore, and copyright bullshyt.

I recently saw a television concert staring Cetera, and he did perform those old Chicago hits, so I was shocked when Chicago didn't perform them themselves. Needless to say, the concert was perfect beyond that. The light show, the flawless music, and the hits our parents grew up to in the 70's, some in the 80's/90's, and several off of their new album, Chicago (30) XXX.

Huey Lewis and the News opened the show with hit after hit from their 80's repetroi, and sounded as if 20 years hasn't aged them at all. Huey Lewis, lead actor in one of my favorite movies "duets", did a great job, working the crowd over, obviously when people were filing in late, just to be there in time for Chicago.

The highlight of the night for me was "If You Leave Me Now" with a "Colour My World" inset, then back to "If You Leave Me Now". The new guiatrist (of 10 years now, lol) Keith Howland soulfully sang the 1st of the two, and then the "Colour My World" melody came shining thru, with Huey Lewis walking onto the stage with Chicago, and singing the song solo. Chicago then went back to the originally song of the medley, finishing off the moment of the night.

"Saturday In The Park" was the opening number of the night, and got everyone to their feet, followed by "Old Days", and "25 or 6 to 4". The band then played a few songs off of their new album, led by hit single "Love Will Come Back", a stereotypical Chicago ballad that sounds really good.

Chicago is still Chicago, and still sounds like Chicago, but I can't get over not hearing Cetera's voice lead the assault!! If they come to town, go see them, they don't have much left in the tank.
